Buddhist complex Karatepa
In the II-IV centuries. n. e. heart of Buddhist culture is a complex Karatepa. The name "Black Hills" he received for being built in the hills of sandstone. The area of the complex Karatepa was over seven hectares in the north-western part of Old Termez. Throughout this territory in large numbers were monasteries and temples, provided both terrestrial and cave buildings. The sandy hills locals pulled out the huge cave and on the hilly slopes of built temples and statues of compacted clay (pakhsa) or bricks.
